| Author Leslie Pina is the head of the interior design department at Ursuline College in Ohio, and has written seven additional books on designers, furniture, glassware and pottery. In Fifties Furniture, she provides an excellent look at the work of designers such as Charles and Ray Eames, George Nelson, Harry Bertoia, Isamu Noguchi and Eero Saarinen. These artists and the companies they worked for, such as Herman Miller, Knoll and Heywood-Wakefield are discussed briefly first, before Pina launches into a more in-depth examination of their creations. Furniture is divided into seating, tables, office, storage, accessories and groupings, and an interesting construction case study of a Charles and Ray Eames 670-671 lounge chair and ottoman made by Herman Miller is also featured. Four hundred and twenty-six photographs (mostly color) are accompanied by detailed captions and approximate values.
