| The gift of more than 350 paintings and objects by Laura Simon Nelson to the Historic New Orleans Collection is celebrated in this catalogue, and Nelson's assemblage represents some of the finest examples of Louisiana art known. The first 60 pages examine this gift, which includes works by Clarence Millet, William Aiken Walker, and Ellsworth Woodward (the latter artists making up the bulk of the group) while the remaining 20 focus on the paintings of the permanent collection of Historic New Orleans. The catalogue serves as an overview of 200 years of Louisiana art, and features an essay by William H. Gerdts entitled "Louisiana Art: Regionally Unique; Southern Exemplar."
