| The artistry of wrought iron is showcased in this reference, which features hundreds of black and white photographs of latticework, gates and railings dating from the Middle Ages through contemporary times. The book is similar in composition to Metal Candlesticks, as both were originally published in 1977 by by Verlag Georg D.W. Callwey, Munchen, Germany and translated by Dr Edward Force of Central Connecticut State University. An historical introduction is followed by wrought iron techniques and restoration, basic forms, and masters and patterns. The development of wrought iron from the Twelfth to the Twentieth Century is discussed in terms of form, although most contemporary examples point out conservation, rebuilding and restoring practices. Examples shown are arranged according to their uses, such as windows, balconies, stairs, gates, fences, tombs, fountains and doors.
