| Through 600 color photographs, bookends are displayed from their beginnings in Nineteenth Century Europe through their development in Twentieth Century America. The images shown illustrate the idea that bookends, as sculpture, reflect many artistic movements, including Art Nouveau, Arts and Crafts, Art Deco and folk art. Examples are arranged chronologically, followed by images of promotional, novelty, handicraft and folk art bookends, as well as Chinese and Japanese imports and reproductions. Information on the process of casting bookends and various marks used is also given. Approximate values are given in accompanying captions.
