PAI-LXII: Rare Posters Catalogue
Poster Auctions International, Inc.
The Winter Sale, PAI-LXII: Rare Posters, features the collection of The Miottel
Museum from San Francisco. Although a far-ranging collection, its principal
component is ocean liner memorabilia, which has been widely exhibited at such
fine institutions as The Smithsonian, New York Metropolitan Museum & San
Francisco Museum of Modern Art. It is the poster collection, of course, which is
included in this sale.
In addition, it includes the largest collection of the posters of Roger Broders
we have ever offered, one of the best and most prolific artists working for the
French railways in the 1920s and 1930s.
The second half of the auction is devoted to International Posters. The star here
is Cappiello; there are 10 maquettes and rarely-seen images such as Kali-Klor,
Marie Brizard & Roger, Verdol, Creme de Luzy, Pilules Pink & Chocolat Klaus.
There are several 2-sheet Buffalo Bill posters, as well as some powerful and rare
German auto racing posters from the 1930s. Noted artists include Cassandre,
Chéret, Dupas, Livemont, Loupot, Mucha, Orazi, Pal, Schnackenberg,
Steinlen, and Toulouse-Lautrec.
