DENVER, PENN. — The top lot of Morphy’s $4.4 million October 5 sale of petrolania was a very appealing 72-inch-high Polly Gas sign, which sold for $90,000, inclusive of buyer’s premium. Originally it had been designed as a neon sign, but the neon tubing was no longer present. Other big winners were two examples of a Kelly Tires sign featuring the “Lotta Miles” girl, one at $88,800 and another for $69,600; a Harbor Petroleum Products seaplane sign, $72,000; an Eco-meter double-face gas pump $60,000; and a Mohawk Gasoline round enameled sign bringing $52,800.
