A rare Seventeenth Century carved Bible box, believed to have been from New Haven County, Conn., sold for a premium price at Hyde Park Country Auctions this past weekend, Saturday, May 8.
The box had been indirectly consigned from a Darien home by a worker that was hired to clean out the contents of the basement.
When the early black-over-red painted and carved box was discovered it was filled with a large assortment of early ephemera including an Andrew Jackson signed document. Bidding on the box, atypically constructed of white pine rather than oak, was active with it selling for $11,220.
A complete review will appear in a future issue.
