Pucker Gallery will present an exhibition, “Zevi Blum: Artistic Equilibrium and Mark Davis: Boldy Balanced” from October 18 to November 11 with an opening reception on October 18, 3 to 6 pm. The public is invited to attend and both artists will be present.

Mark Davis is a Boston area artist who creates colorful hanging and standing mobiles, subtly inspired by the language of Calder, the shapes of Miro and the colors of Matisse. Initially a successful jewelry designer, Davis found that sculpture allowed him to create more freely from his intuition, embracing energy and motion more fully.

Davis’s most recent sculptures combine boldness and balance with insight. They exude sensual movement reminiscent of the human form, as well as forms inspired by the natural world. These mobiles combine playful form and color with movement and space in a variety of media, including sterling silver, gold plate, brass, colored lacquer and wood.

Zevi Blum was born in Paris and was a professor of fine arts at Cornell University for 25 years. Though he was originally educated as an architect, Blum has created etchings and hand water colored etchings for most of his artistic career.

His compositions are filled with allusions to religion, mythology and fairytales and present a delightful panoply of characters. These figures seem to belong to no age, yet also to every age, as they are fanciful anachronisms that speak to universal themes. An element that pervades Blum’s work is that of human inventiveness gone awry.
