It was another Ron “Mr Millions” Bourgeault sale last weekend, October 31-November 2, when his fall auction at the Center of New Hampshire Holiday Inn racked up $5.7 million.

It took 1,899 lots, some passed, to get there, along with some extra help from a few high-powered objects.

An Indian shooting bow and arrow weathervane, full-bodied copper with sheet copper feathered headdress, mounted on an arrow with zinc tip, attracted a great deal of attention and caused most of the staff taking phone bids to rise to the occasion.

David Wheatcroft, who announced he was through making predictions about what an object would bring at auction and to check back with him after the sale, underbid the weathervane.

The hammer fell at $330,000, resulting in a final price of $365,300 with premium.

The vane measures 341/2 inches high, 45 inches long, and was last sold at Sotheby’s, June 30, 1984, the cover lot, for a reported $41,000.

Northeast Auctions is not releasing the name of the successful bidder, but our best guess is that it went into the collection of a well-known New York City couple.
