-Doyle New York’s recent auction of Important Estate Jewelry included property from a number of private collections and estates such as Mattie-King S. Hardy, Gladys Weiner Burg and actress Dolores Gray, all of New York. With competitive bidding from the crowded salesroom and the telephones, as well as from absentee and Internet participation, the auction totaled $1,618,343 with 88 percent sold by lot and value

“I am very pleased with the prices that were achieved at the auction,” said Laura Doyle, director of Doyle New York’s jewelry department. “We are seeing a strong market for high quality jewelry, especially signed pieces and exceptional stones.”

Also from the Hardy estate were a ruby and diamond “Zip” combination necklace and bracelet by Van Cleef & Arpels, $56,762; a diamond twin stone ring of crossover design by Cartier, $28,680; and a sapphire and diamond ring set with an oval sapphire approximately 35 carats, $21,510.

The auction also featured jewelry from the estate of Hollywood and Tony Award-winning Broadway actress Dolores Gray. Her spectacular diamond engagement ring featuring a large pear-shaped diamond, approximately 18.61 carats, enhanced with two additional pear-shaped diamonds of more than 1.2 carats each, that sold for $130,700 against a presale estimate of $65/85,000.

Also noteworthy were a diamond line bracelet set with graduated baguette-cut diamonds totaling 14 carats, $14,937; a pair of diamond earclips with detachable ruby and diamond pendants, $11,950; and a ruby and diamond ring of turban design by David Webb, $11,352.
