After having last participated in the Winter Antiques Show in 1991, Alex Acevedo of Manhattan’s Alexander Gallery will once again be participating in the prestigious Park Avenue event. Acevedo, who offers an important selection of American paintings with an emphasis on the Hudson River School, will be exhibiting an assortment of American works of art, along with a selection of prime Americana. Several pieces of George Washington memorabilia that tie in with this year’s loan exhibit will also reportedly be exhibited in his stand. Other items to be shown in Acevedo’s display include a William Ranney painting depicting the “Purchase of Manhattan, 1626,” an Eighteenth Century Dutch album filled with Chinese watercolors and an important landscape of “Niagara and the Rapids,” executed by John Van Derlyn, who was one of the first American trained artists to visit the falls. Another item of great importance will be a 1796 portrait of George Washington that was executed by William Clarke. Acevedo, who will add flavor to the Winter Antiques Show, will replace Ricky Goytizolo of Georgian Manor Antiques, who has decided for personal reasons not to return to the show.
