Is there room for an additional show in the Americana Week lineup for January 2007? Sanford L. Smith and Associates thinks there is and promoter Sandy Smith has informally announced what may soon be not only an additional event in his impressive lineup of shows, but also a new show in a venue that will be new to Americana enthusiasts. “It will be called the Sanford Smith Original American Antiques Show,” stated the promoter during a conversation at his Outsider Art Fair on January 26. “It will be a fun show with 34 dealers, reasonable rent and a wide range of Americana,” stated Smith, who hopes to firm up and secure the dates in the near future. “Right now, there is a conflict with the facility,” he said, “but, I am confident that we will be able to work things out.” The show will be scheduled to open during the initial days and weekend of Americana Week at the historic Puck Building at Houston and Lafayette, which is approximately 18 blocks south of The Museum of American Folk Art’s show, TAAS. Sanford Smith and Associates currently conducts the Outsider Art Fair from the Puck Building facility during the final days of Americana week; the addition of the Americana show taking place the previous week would allow Smith to promote from the same location for back-to-back events.
