Albert H. “Sandy” Dow Jr died Thursday, January 19, at his home. A longtime antiques dealer, in 1948 Sandy established Dow’s Corner Shop, antiques, which he operated with family assistance for 57 years, and is still in operation in Tuftonboro Corner. He was one of the first presidents of the New Hampshire Antique Dealers Association, which was founded in the early 1950s with his participation. Linda Tate, current president of the NHADA, announced that the 2006 NH Antiques Show will be dedicated to both Albert Dow and Pauline Charron Gatz. Born May 18, 1923, in Melrose, Mass., he was the son of Albert Henry and Bessie (Pearson) Dow. He graduated from Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro in 1941, and attended the US Merchant Marine Academy at King’s Point, N.Y., completing his studies at sea. Sandy was one of the participants in the “Murmansk Run” during World War II. He and other survivors were honored by the Russian government in Washington, D.C., ceremonies in December 1992. Sandy was a member of the Tuftonboro Historical Society and Wolfeboro-Tuftonboro Land Bank, director of Kingswood Bank and Trust, a Tuftonboro selectman and auditor for three terms each (1955-1975), and a 50-year member of Morning Star Lodge 17. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marjorie Holmes Dow; his daughters, Susan Dow Johnson and her husband, Charles, of Cheshire, Conn., and Caryl Dow Welch and her husband, Thomas, of Hampton, N.H.; and five grandchildren.
