A stolen bronze figural statue by Edward Henry Berge, titled “Wildflower,” that appeared in the October 12 issue of Antiques and The Arts Weekly, was recovered by Detective Charles Brown of the Greenwich Police Department. Missing from a local hotel garden since September 11, the 42-inch-tall weathered verdigris statue was valued at $45,000.
Detective Brown contacted Antiques and The Arts Weekly on October 12 to report that the bronze figural sculpture had been recovered. “I got a call from the wife of a police officer †who is currently serving in Iraq †after she saw the picture in the paper. She told me, ‘You know that bronze statue that’s missing? I think it’s sitting in my neighbor’s front garden.’ Now I have it sitting right here, on my desk,” he said.
Brown thanked Antiques and The Arts Weekly for getting the word out about the missing piece and stated that he anticipated wrapping up the investigation shortly.
