Even the most persnickety shopper could have found plenty to buy for those stockings hung by the fire with care at Cord Shows’ Stocking Stuffers Antiques Show December 19, an annual tradition of the holiday season.
The show occupied the gymnasium and front hallway of the Eastern Greenwich Civic Center for this one-day event. With dealers restricted to the promoter’s rule of selling only items measuring 6 inches or less (silver being an exception), one might think this would be an easy set up. Dropping in on the show at just after 8 am, several dealers were putting the finishing touches on their booths, while others still had cases and cases to unpack.
Jewelry was prolific on several tables, from turquoise to fine estate jewelry and costume. Audrey Flashner, Rye, N.Y., featured several stellar pieces buyers oohed and ahhed over, from a silver necklace in the form of a row of bears to a gold snake bracelet with diamonds. Sue Levine, Scarsdale, N.Y., had just bought out an estate and she featured a fine collection of bejeweled pins in various forms. Joseph Vey Antiques, Philadelphia, offered a nice collection of cameos.
Christmas ornaments were spotted among several dealers, befitting the season, while Lara Joyce Antiques showed several vintage cameras, including an Eastman Kodak No. 2 “folding Rainbow Hawk-Eye” camera in green, circa 1930″4, and a Soho Ltd folding camera in maroon Bakelite, circa 1930s.
NCC Antiques came down from Dover, N.H., with an eclectic grouping of items from dresser accessories to a 1915 Rookwood green matte flower frog and 1970s Kentucky Fried Chicken sample boxes. By today’s supersize portions, the sample boxes looked as if they would only hold one chicken wing each. The boxes were in good condition and had appealing graphics.
