Sotheby’s Hong Kong autumn sales, October 2‸, totaled $400 million, far surpassing the firm’s $215 million presale estimate and marking the highest total ever for a sale series in Hong Kong.
One of the highlights in the 2,800-lot sale was a yellow ground famille rose double gourd vase from the Qianlong period, which sold for $32.4 million in a white glove sale of masterpieces of Qing Imperial porcelain from J.T. Tai & Co. The vase set a record for any Chinese work of art or porcelain at auction.
A complete review of the sale will appear in a future issue of Antiques and The Arts Weekly. ⁗D
