The top lot of the Millhous Collection auction February 25, which saw Bob and Paul Millhous’ private museum of classic cars, rare musical instruments and other collectibles emptied to the tune of $38.3 million, was a rare 1912 Oldsmobile Limited five-passenger touring car. RM Auctions and Sotheby’s conducted the auction.
Estimated at $1.4/1.6 million, the only known surviving example of its type and year won its class at Pebble Beach and boasts a massive 60hp six-cylinder engine and unique coachwork. Measuring 7 feet tall by nearly 17 feet long, the car is in dark blue paint accented with a straw pinstripe.
The centerpiece of the Millhous collection, a custom-built merry-go-round, sold for nearly $1.3 million.
A complete report on the sale will appear in a future edition.
