An E. Howard astronomical regulator No. 46 clock soared to $230,000 at Fontaine’s clock auction conducted Saturday, November 17. The price is a new world record for any model of E. Howard clock, according to auctioneer John Fontaine.
The 10-foot, 6-inch tall clock was originally shipped to Sommer & Pierak Jewelry Store in Springfield, Ill., by way of Howard’s Chicago office and descended in the same family for several generations until being consigned to this sale.
A complete review of the sale will appear in an upcoming issue.
