PLAINFIELD, N.H. — A chip-carved checkerboard, with drawer and decorated with an eagle and the lettering “CAMPBELL” on one side and five wheel chip-carved decorations on the back side, was the attention-getter on Saturday, October 31, at William A. Smith’s two-day estate sale that benefited Historic Deerfield.
Several bidders took part in the early stages of this lot, but two fought to the end, with the winner paying $43,700 with the buyer’s premium. A complete review of the sale will be included in next week’s paper, along with comments from the buyer of the board.
