CHESTER, N.Y. — William Jenack’s auction of June 26 saw two coins blow past the high estimates. The coins were minted in China in 1995 and 96. A 1995 bimetallic 500 Yuan Panda coin contained 5 troy ounces .999 gold and 2 troy ounces of .999 silver and had a limited worldwide mintage of 199, this being coin #103. With a presale estimate of $5/7,000, it found its way to a selling price of $33,350, including buyer’s premium.
The other coin, a 1996 5 troy ounce.999 gold 500 Yuan Unicorn with a limited worldwide mintage of 108, coin #58, with the same estimate, hammered down at $29,900 with premium.
