GENEVA, SWITZERLAND — Nick Foulkes, a watch collector and contributing editor to Vanity Fair and the Financial Times, spoke with Christie’s on the enduring legacy of the Nautilus ahead of the firm’s November 14 rare watch sale. Foulkes said, “The Nautilus… wasn’t loud but it was very different. You would certainly know you were wearing it. It must have looked incredibly radical in the 1970s.” Eight Patek Philippe Nautilus watches were up for grabs in that sale and all sold, ranging from $32,867 for a 1981 18K gold and stainless steel automatic model to $371,653 for an 18K white gold automatic with Gay Frères bracelet and additional diamond-set dial.
