WHITEHOUSE STATION, N.J. — A superior example of the ‘Initiating Bank – First Degree’ took the block at RSL Auction Company’s March 17 sale as it finished at $18,000 including buyer’s premium. The single owner sale featured the Kirk Addis collection of still and mechanical banks, toys and folk art. The cast iron ‘Initiating Bank – First Degree’ was made circa 1896 by the New Britain, Conn., Mechanical Novelty Works firm. Once a coin was placed in the boy’s hand, a pressed lever would propel the goat forward, butting the boy from behind as the coin slides into the frog’s open mouth.
