CRANSTON, R.I. — A Chinese porcelain vase with mottled robin’s egg blue glaze went way above the $3,000 high estimate to sell for $48,000 in Bruneau & Co’s July 13 estate auction. The vase measured 12¾ inches high and came from a Rhode Island estate, where it was discovered on the floor as the firm was called in to look at a mineral collection. The piece was in good condition without any chips, though it had been drilled at the base.
Bidding for the vase opened at $25,000 online and was bid up between six phone bidders and two absentee. The work sold to a Chinese bidder on the phone.
