NEW YORK CITY — In Sotheby’s October 10 sale, “Sculptural Fantasy: The Important American Folk Art Collection of Stephen and Petra Levin,” a carved and paint-decorated tobacconist theatrical trade figure attributed to William Demuth or Samuel Robb stood tallest. Estimated at $200/300,000, it saw competition in the room and on the phone but ultimately sold for $187,500 to folk art dealer Alan Katz, who was bidding in the room on behalf of a client. A future issue will feature an extensive sale review.
