REHOBOTH, MASS. — Americana Auctions’ October 2 “Super Estates & Nautical Auction” offered 540 lots of fresh-to-the-market antiques and collectibles, including nautical, fine art, jewelry, furniture, rugs and militaria but spearing its $8/12,000 estimate and selling for $23,750 was a Nineteenth Century narwhal tusk with characteristic barley-twist form that measured more than 8 feet long and had a diameter at the end of just 2 inches. It was the top lot, besting China trade paintings, James Buttersworth ship portraits and a variety of clocks. Prices quoted include the buyer’s premium; watch for a more extensive sale recap in a future issue.
