EAST DENNIS, MASS. — Eldred’s auctioned 154 lots from the collection of Bob and Nancy Skinner on Friday, November 17. One of the top lots was a painted folk art miniature articulating turtle, which four phone bidders chased, but it ultimately sold to an online bidder for $13,860, including buyer’s premium, far surpassing its $300/500 estimate. One of the early lots during Eldred’s auction, it set the tone for lots of spirited bidding and strong results. The mid-to-late Nineteenth Century turtle, only 4¼ inches in length, had a movable head, tail and legs and retained its original red, cream and black paint. An upcoming issue will feature a more extensive review of the auction.
