MARLBOROUGH, MASS. — On November 14, the American furniture and accessories collected by William Dana Lippman, assembled over decades, were sold by Bonhams Skinner in a 109-lot sale. An exceptional carved Chippendale chest-on-chest, attributed to Benjamin Burnham, Colchester, Conn., circa 1770, was the top lot of the sale bringing $381,500 in a post-auction transaction. The Hopkins family block-and-shell carved mahogany kneehole bureau, probably made in Providence, R.I., circa 1790, earned $108,450. It will remain in Massachusetts. Bonhams Skinner will sell Lippman’s paintings at a future sale but included two by Fitz Henry Lane in this sale, one of which earned $165,600. Weathervanes and Oriental carpets were also among the sale’s highlights. A full report will follow.
