DALLAS — Heritage Auctions’ Important European Art Auction, comprising 137 lots of paintings, prints, drawings and sculptural works, realized more than $2.13 million on June 5. The auction’s top lot was a vibrant yellow “Fleurs” painting by Le Pho (French/Vietnamese, 1907-2001). The 39½-inch-square oil on canvas was painted in 1973-74 and had provenance to Findlay Galleries (Palm Beach, Fla.) and a private collection in Lost Tree, Fla. The atmospheric still life was from the artist’s mature period, featuring a layered brushwork that merged color, form and ground. Against a $120/180,000 estimate, the painting was bid to $250,000, including buyer’s premium. An upcoming issue will discuss additional highlights from the auction.
