NEW YORK CITY — The fallout from the September 11 tragedy continues to take its toll on the country, altering many things that were once taken as routine. The antiques business in New York has suffered greatly due to the emergency uses in many of the prime exhibition spots. From that date forward, all shows have been cancelled at the 7th Regiment Armory on Park Avenue and at the 69th Regiment Armory, 26 Street and Lexington Avenue.

Sanford Smith has moved his Modernism: A Century of Art & Design from the 7th Regiment Armory to 32 West 23rd Street, off Fifth Avenue. He has been forced to cancel three of his other events, however: Antiques & Fine Art Show and Art of The 20th Century, both booked for the 7th Regiment Armory, and Connoisseur’s Antiques Fair, scheduled for the 69th Regiment Armory on Lexington Avenue.

Irene Stella of Stella Show Management has been forced to cancel the Triple Pier Show, a two-weekend event on the Hudson River. For a brief time this show was moved to the Javits Center, one weekend, but that too has now been cancelled.

Leanne Stella, president of the company, said this week, “The hopes of returning to the 69th Regiment Armory for Antiques at The Other Armory in January are very slim at best. However, we will have the show at a convenient location and at the same time period. It has not and will not be cancelled.” The show is set for January 18-20 and the location will be announced by Stella at a later date.

As for the Winter Antiques Show, a benefit for the East Side House Settlement, official word has not be received from that organization. Talk on the street has it still taking place at the 7th Regiment Armory, but others in the business feel that the armory will not be open for shows by the January dates. In that case, rumor has it that the show will be in a midtown hotel. The location of the show, when officially announced, will appear on page 67.

The American Antiques Show, the benefit for the American Folk Art Museum, will be January 17-20 at the Metropolitan Pavilion, 125 West 18th Street, and Antiques Manhattan, under the management of Barry Cohen, will be open Friday and Saturday, January 18-19, at the Altman Building, 135 West 18th Street.
