PITTSFIELD, MASS. – Fontaine’s two-day summer auction featuring a 500-lot catalogued session and discovery night grossed $2,625,000.
The top lot was a Tiffany Peony table lamp that sold for $161,250. The lamp, measuring 32 inches high on its telescopic base, featured a domical, 22-inch-diameter, signed shade with multicolored peony blossoms of rippled glass. The root base, also signed Tiffany Studios New York, consisted of six pad feet.
A Tiffany drop-head dragonfly leaded and overlay table lamp, 30 inches high, sold for $105,400. Its 22 and one-half inch shade featured mottled yellow-brown background glass and a large number of amber cabochons. A rare gilt bronze base, formed by concentric triangular shapes decreasing in size toward the top, was signed Tiffany Studios New York 549.
