Free-Floating Forms in Solid Steel Land at Adelson Galleries
NEW YORK CITY – Recent steel painted sculptures by Peter Reginato are being shown at Adelson Galleries, Inc. The Mark Hotel, 25 East 77th Street, third floor. The exhibition will run through April 28.
The 17 steel painted sculptures shown represent Reginato’s continuing gift for successfully integrating original color harmonies and free-floating amorphous forms in solid steel to achieve the illusion of weightless balance and suspension. The artist has spent the last year and a half experimenting with a range of new colors and effects, incorporating small and large shapes into his forms, and utilizing the translucent material Plexiglas for the first time.
Reginato’s work ultimately concerns equilibrium: questioning and achieving the perfect balance between buoyancy and bulk, geometric and organic forms, biomorphic panels and taut wires, and bright hues and subdued tones.
Reginato’s sculpture is represented in numerous permanent collections including The Metropolitan Museum of Art; the Corcoran Gallery of Art; the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden; The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston; Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; and the John Mable Ringling Museum of Art, Sarasota. His sculptures have been featured in many one-man and group exhibitions at venues including the Whitney Museum of American Art; Hayward Gallery, London; Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond; Storm King Center, Mountainville, New York; Museum of Art, Fort Lauderdale; and the Samuel P. Harn Museum of Art, Gainesville, Florida.
Exhibition hours are Monday through Friday 9:30 am to 5:30 pm and on Saturdays from 10 am to 5 pm. For information, 212-439-6800.
