A New England Realist Returns to Cummaquid

CUMMAQUID, MASS. – Marieluise Hutchinson of Yarmouthport celebrates her 13th solo show at Cummaquid Fine Arts, 4275 Route 6/A (Barnstable), August 16-28 with an artist’s reception Saturday, August 17, 5:30 to 7:30 pm.

Hutchinson captures the sparseness and honesty of traditional New England in landscape and still life. A self-taught artist, she describes herself as a “New England realist.” She has been influenced by Eric Sloane and Andrew Wyeth. Her paintings evoke an earlier and simpler period and focus on the fields, marshes, houses and barns that were part of her youth on a farm in then rural Hanover, Mass.
