LONDON — Andy Warhol’s landmark first “Dollar” painting, hand-painted in 1962, attained $32.8m during Sotheby’s contemporary art sales July 1–2, reportedly the highest price achieved across all auction houses this week. This marks the fourth consecutive sale season in London that Sotheby’s has achieved the top contemporary lot across all auction houses. The combined evening and days sales totaled $232.2 million in all, an increase of nearly 30 percent over last year’s equivalent sales.
A complete report on the auction will appear in a future edition.
