DETROIT, MICH. — A “Lily Pond” painting by Claude Monet (French, 1840–1926) brought $330,000, including buyer’s premium, at DuMouchelles Art Gallery’s auction of paintings, antiques and jewelry on April 19.
The circa 1910 oil on board measures 6½ by 9½ inches and is signed lower right. Presented in a gilt nonoriginal frame, the work came from the collection of Monet’s friend and artist Frank Kupka (1871–1963), and then from the collection of Kupka’s nephew, A. Koella in 1950.
A complete review of the sale will appear in an upcoming issue.
