PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Bert Gallery increased its outreach beyond 24 Bridge Street to a wider audience when it hosted its studio sale featuring historic, modern and highlights from the Providence School on October 2 on LiveAuctioneers. The dedicated artwork online auction featured a special concentration of the Providence School artists from the Nineteenth Century over 15 lots. Gallery owner Cathy Bert said she was delighted with the continued strong sales of Antonio Cirino, a founder of the Rockport Art Association but a much admired Providence School artist who was a member of the Providence Art Club and teacher at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). His trademark Rockport harbor scene sold for $2,040, including buyer’s premium. Bert said that Cirino loved his home in Rockport, Mass., a summer retreat from the urban setting of Providence where he taught at RISD and painted in his East Providence studio. “It is not surprising that his Rockport paintings and images are highly desired and collected by connoisseurs who find them the most genuine and inspired of his works,” she said. A follow-on review of this sale will discuss additional highlights.
