Constantino Brumidi’s study for “The Apotheosis of Washington,” his fresco for the rotunda of the US Capitol building, sold for $539,500 at Skinner’s March 4 Americana sale. Estimated at $250/350,000, the oil on canvas sold on the phone. It had sold at auction in 1919 for $300.
