DALLAS — An Apollo 11 flown American flag directly from the Armstrong Family Collection sold for $62,500 to lead Heritage Auctions’ Space Exploration Signature Auction May 19-20. Mission-flown US flags are always in demand by space collectors, but the fact that this one was preserved by the first man to step on the moon sent the demand soaring to more than twice its pre-auction estimate. This was one of two other mission-flown flags in the upper lots to sell, but these were from the later Apollo 16 mission. The auction totaled $1,559,913 with almost 1,000 lots. More on other top sales to follow in an upcoming issue.
