KÖLN, GERMANY — Auction Team Breker offered almost 500 lots in its May 13 auction, including office-antiques, telephones, photographica, film, science and technology and mechanical music steam engines. Leading the band was a rare circa 1890 mechanical flute, “Orchestrion Ehrlich’s Musik Automat,” made by Paul Ehrlich of Leipzig at $40,563. The only known example of “No. 61,” this flute was coin-operated and housed its Ariston discs and pipes in an inlaid walnut case with detailed architectural decoration. A more in-depth report on this and other winning lots to follow.
