BIDDEFORD, MAINE — Leading the Saco River Auction Company’s April 2 auction was a Babe Ruth game-worn 1910–20 Spaulding glove that attained $118,000, going to a private collector in the Midwest.
Once archived in the Joe Franklin Memory Lane Collection, the glove was gifted by Clair Ruth in 1968 while appearing on the show. The glove was probably made in or around 1910 and was worn by Babe early in his career.
Franklin worked as a radio host in New York City and accrued a collection of many items from famous owners, many of which crossed the block in this sale, said Troy Thibodeau at the auction house.
