NANTUCKET, MASS. — A fancy, sailor-made, inlaid and polychromed swift, known as the Baroque swift, achieved $57,120, including the buyer’s premium, at Rafael Osona’s Americana, fine arts and marine auction August 1.
The circa 1850 swift is one of three known by this hand with one in a private collection and the third in the collection of the New Bedford Whaling Museum. It is the only one with silver and baleen dot inlaid ribs.
