Copley Fine Art Auctions conducted its inaugural antique sporting art and waterfowl auction on July 27, with several hefty prices posted throughout the auction. Leading the way was an exceptional Frank W. Benson oil on canvas. Executed in an Impressionistic manner, the painting, titled “Salmon Fishing” was actively bid with it selling at $747,500, including premium. The top lot of the decoys offered was a greater yellowlegs by either Charles Summer Bunn or Bill Bowman. In original paint and with beautiful mottling along the back, it was considered to be “One of the finest Bunn/Bowman shorebirds known to exist.” Bidding was active for the lot with it selling at $97,750. -DSS
