PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — Northeast Auctions’ March 5–6 sale was a collection of collections, with a 21-inch dark blue Staffordshire Arms of Pennsylvania platter bringing more than double estimate, finishing at $31,200. Fetching the same price was a 26-inch Bellamy eagle with his well-known “Don’t Give Up The Ship” banner.
The rest of the historical blue Staffordshire collection did well, as did a collection of Currier & Ives prints. Porcelains were strong, with a pair of Chinese famille verte wine cups finishing at 36 times its estimate. Delft and early English ceramics, including a set of six Dutch-decorated Prodigal Son creamware plates, also did well.
The sale included antiquities deaccessioned from the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and items deaccessioned from the New-York Historical Society.
