Peter Loftus Paintings on View at Fischbach
NEW YORK CITY – The Fischbach Gallery, 24 West 57th Street, is having its tenth solo exhibition of paintings by Peter Loftus. The show will be on view through November 25.
Loftus’s work features dramatic views of the Santa Cruz-California coast. This Pacific shoreline area where Loftus works is a nationally protected region with an increasingly rare natural beauty. Loftus is fascinated with Northern California’s topography and with the particular clarity of its regional light. This comes through in his oils and watercolors, painted as highly nuanced landscapes in which skies and water glow with colors illuminated within their depths. Throughout these works the artist links heightened moments of nature with profound emotion.
Born in Washington, D.C., in 1948, Loftus studied at the Maryland Institute College of Art, and the University of Pennsylvania. He has lived in Santa Cruz, California since 1974.
