A strong two-day Americana auction took place this past weekend, May 21-22, at Pook & Pook Inc.
A Bucks County landscape by Harry Leith-Ross led the way. The painting, estimated at $18/25,000, was actively bid by numerous telephone bidders and several in the gallery, with it ultimately hammering down at $131,500.
Other top lots included a George Stapf carved and paint decorated spread winged eagle with shield and flag that sold for $52,900, a full bodied carved eagle on ball and base by John Bellamy went out at $46,000 and a paint decorated Schwenkfelder dower chest realized $43,700. A complete review will appear in a future issue.
