NEW YORK CITY — A collection of presidential ephemera attracted much attention at Roland New York, which offered the first of several specialized collections February 19 from the estate of history collector Dr Alan York. Leading the charge was a Douglas & Johnson 1860 pictorial campaign flag that attained $18,750 including the buyer’s premium.
“We were delighted with how the sale performed,” said Gallery Director Michael Podniesinski, noting the three-hour sale had a sell-through rate of around 94 percent and grossed nearly a quarter million dollars.
The glazed cotton flag printed in blue has a bust-length portrait of Douglas in a 3/4 profile pose within a shield having 44 stars, It measures 13 by 81/4 inches.
