NEW YORK CITY – Among the many highlights of Shapiro Auctions’ sale of international fine and decorative art in New York City on September 26, “Le Bouquet d’Amour” by Marc Chagall sold for $785,000. Chagall returned to one his most recognizable and beloved themes in this gouache, crayon, pastel, oil and collage on paper laid down on canvas — flowers, young lovers and humble cluster of rooftops and small village life. The work came from a private Geneva collection and had been acquired from William A. Findlay, Chicago. Principal auctioneer Gene Shapiro said, “We were so honored to include such a classic work with such impeccable provenance by such an important master artist of the early Twentieth Century.”
