Cecily Colburn, chairman of the Ellis Antiques Show, has announced that Chris Jussel will serve as the manager for the 48th annual Ellis Antiques Show, set for November 2‴ at the Castle at the Park Plaza Hotel and Towers.
A charitable fundraising event, the Ellis Antiques Show raises monies for the Ellis Memorial, one of the first Settlement houses in Boston and now a multifaceted center serving children and adults who are from Boston’s inner city low-income population. The show also raises monies for Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program at Massachusetts General Hospital. The staff at MGH not only administers medical care, but also helps patients in the housing placement process and facilitates entry into addiction programs where appropriate.
Colburn said, “Antiques collecting has changed a great deal in recent years. The Ellis Antiques Show is one of the oldest, and most prominent, antiques shows in America †and we want to update and refresh a great Boston tradition. We anticipate that collectors will be well-served by some of the changes we are making with the Ellis Antiques Show. I was thrilled Chris accepted our offer. His fresh perspective and enthusiasm will greatly benefit the show.”
Jussel has been involved in the antiques business for 35 years. For more than 20 years, he was the owner of Vernay & Jussel. One of the oldest established antiques businesses in America, the firm dealt in fine English antique furniture and works of art from 1906 to 1994. He has broad experience in antiques shows, and has exhibited in many shows in America and England over the past 30 years. He is well known to many Americans as the original host of the PBS television series Antiques Roadshow.
Jussel remarked, “I look forward to working with Cecily Colburn and the Ellis Antiques Show committee. The Ellis has always been a great antiques show in one of America’s greatest cities. It has always been a pleasure to attend the show, and it will be a great pleasure to work on the show. I can’t wait for November.”
