NEW YORK CITY — Christie’s has announced that it has been entrusted with the sale of the private collection of President and Mrs Ronald Reagan, the celebrated 40th US president and first lady. This landmark auction is slated for September to coincide with Christie’s Americana Week sales series in New York. Per the Reagans’ wishes, proceeds from the auction are designated for the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute.
The sale encompasses furniture, decorative works of art, books, memorabilia, jewelry, paintings, sculpture, drawings and prints from President and Mrs Reagan’s home in Los Angeles, Calif. The collection includes American, English and Chinese furnishings selected for the home’s beautifully appointed Ted Graber-designed interiors, paying homage to the William Haines “Hollywood Regency” style. The collection will be sold in a sequence of live and online auctions. Estimates on individual items range from $1,000 to $50,000, and the sales are expected to realize in excess of $2 million total.
More details of the collection will be announced in the coming weeks. The complete sale catalog will be available later this summer.
