FLINT, MICH. — Dr Melvyn David Wolf, who had a true passion for collecting pewter and was a partner with his wife, Bette Wolf, in Wolfs Antiques, passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on February 6, in Flint. Born on August 10, 1932, Melvyn was a brilliant and wonderful individual who had profound impact on the lives of those around him. He was a loving, dedicated and devoted son, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Melvyn served his country with honor and distinction as a captain and doctor of the US Army in Fort Benning, Ga., from 1958 to 1960. He was proud to have served his country.
After his military service, Melvyn completed his orthopedic residency in Cincinnati and pursued a successful career as an orthopedic surgeon at Flint McLaren Hospital. He also held the position of residency director for orthopedic surgery at McLaren Hospital. His dedication and training of residents positively impacted countless lives.
Beyond his professional and family commitments, Melvyn was a past president of the Pewter Collectors Club of America, as is Bette. They were coauthors of An American Pewter Collection. Collecting pewter was a genuine passion of Melvyn and Bette, while enjoying participating in antiques shows, interacting with museums, lecturing on relevant pewter topic, and the ever-present camaraderie of fellow dealers and customers wewre highlights for him.
Melvyn is survived by his beloved wife, Bette Aaron Wolf of nearly 70 years, and their children: Larry Wolf (Mara Levinson), Marty Wolf (Michelle Cooper), Mitch Wolf (Suzanne Gottlieb) and Andrea Block (Peter Block). He was a cherished grandfather to Zachary Wolf, Kayley Wolf (Boris Raskin) with great-grandson Braxton and daughter Ziva, Abby Wolf, Jessica Wolf (Norman Schwartz) and great-granddaughter Sadie, Drew Deluchi (Rakell Deluchi) with great-granddaughter Scarlet and great-grandson August, Stephanie (Srini Jayaraman), Benjamin (Kate Snyder) and great-granddaughter Eleanor, Jacob (Isa Ferrall-Wolf), Sam Block (Elyssa Cherney) and great-grandson Caleb, Molly Block and Nate Block.
Melvyn Wolf will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His memory will forever remain in our hearts.
