GOFFSTOWN, N.H. — Withington’s Mid-Winter Americana auction on February 17 was a sale full of surprises. Furniture ranged from the Eighteenth to the Twentieth Centuries and a fine reproduction Dunlap tiger maple highboy was the top lot of the day, bringing $6,000. It, and several other pieces in the sale, had been made by Paul Rulli, a furniture maker currently working from Searsport, Maine. Eighteenth Century offerings included a set of six Boston Queen Anne chairs, circa 1750, that went to a buyer in Portsmouth for $3,600. There was surprising interest in a World War II parachute with a story to tell and a several lots of 35mm movie film from a defunct movie theater. Oriental carpets did well, as did a single-owner coin collection. Prices quoted include the buyer’s premium; watch for a full report in an upcoming issue.
